SouthTech is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to provide technology service and support to external SouthTech clients. Systems Engineers assist in the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of client networks and are responsible for incoming reactive and proactive services requests.  Work performed will be both onsite at client offices, and remote from SouthTech’s service desk, and will include tests/evaluations of network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements.  System Engineers work both independently and as part of a team to address client submitted service requests, analyzing technical issues promptly, and working to resolve service team Level 1 escalations.  The position relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job, working under the supervision of a team lead or manager.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of technical experience (3 if MSP Experience)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to work within a team environment, but still be capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, clean Driving Record, and insurable under SouthTech’s automobile policy
  • Excellent problem-solving skills in a wide range of technical areas such as VMWare, Hyper-V, SQL, Terminal Servers, Active Directory, Exchange, Cloud/Hosted Services, MS Office 365, Windows 10, VPN Connectivity.
  • Thorough understanding of workstations and servers
  • Understanding of all aspects of LAN environments – TCP/IP, subnets, routing, SMTP, DNS and DHCP, switch and firewall configurations.
  • Experience with and/or certification(s) with Microsoft solutions (Active Directory, Exchange and server/desktop operating systems, and Office Suites)
  • Experience with and/or certification(s) with engineering/administrating VMWare and/or Microsoft Hyper-V environments
  • Experience with and/or certification(s) with engineering/administrating VoIP environments, POE switches, QoS configurations
  • Understanding of SANs/storage arrays (iSCSI, FC, in clustered environments)
  • CompTIA A+, Network +, Security+, MCP MCSA/MCSE, VCP, CCNA certifications a plus but not required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Resolution of incoming service requests/calls/tickets and call from clients
  • Resolution of Level 1 escalations
  • Visit client sites as needed (sometimes multiple clients in a single day)
  • Work directly with client end users, internal team and managers.
  • Willingness to be on-call for support issues during non-business hours
  • Ticket and Task Management

Salary will be commensurate with applicable skills sets, certification(s) and experience.
